Have you ever thought about what you believe?
Our teenagers face many battles daily. They are having to decide what is true and what is false. During COVID I decided that it was time for me to write my own curriculum and help our students work through the topic of truth. I believe focusing on what we believe matters as we grow more in our Christian walk and live life outside of the church.
A few summers ago, I was preaching at an apologetics conference in Quito, Ecuador. The topic assigned to me by the university was how do our thoughts affect our life. While preparing to speak I studied 1 John for a few months in preparation for the conference. In my studies I began to find myself writing down these words daily, “What we believe comes out daily by how we live daily.” I have found in working with teenagers for 18+ years that what we put into our mind, buy into, and believe to be true affects the way we live daily. Not only does it affect the way we live, but it actually comes out in our actions and words daily.
What are your actions telling others about what you believe?
Let’s look at 1 John 1:1-5
I love these verses because John clearly states there is a God, and he has existed since the beginning of time. Not only has he existed since the beginning of time, but he has spoken to His people in the wilderness. Not only did He speak to the people in the wilderness, but he also promised that a Messiah and Savior would come. That Messiah is Jesus!
The church has been given to us to help us worship together, grow in Christ, and to fellowship together with believers. What we believe to be true has never been more important than right now in our world.
Everyone has a microphone and shares what they believe to be true about every topic, but I want to challenge you today to look through your Bible and write down on a sheet of paper everything you believe to be true with the Bible verse that goes along with it.
If what we believe comes out in how we live daily then may Jesus be poured out in all areas of your life.
Jesus today I want you to help me to build a list of everything that I believe to be true about you and your Word. May I run to your Word before I ever run to someone else’s words and opinions. Jesus help me to daily look over what is true and may your truth pour out of my life. Amen.
